Love this devotional book

Max Lucado is one of the best. He talks to people... to their lives. The hard thing as always is to keep up. But his in between writing is great. The Scripture of course, is the most important part. I bought many of them for Christmas presents.

This is the best book for people like me to read through the Lord's Word, without fail, in one year. Each reading starts with a touching devotional by Max Lucado that is based on one of the passages for the day. The devotional helps the reader warm up to what the Bible reading texts will be, and then start reading with gusto. When the reading is done, the reader eagerly anticipates what God will say next. Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy didn't seem difficult to grasp, and one can actually finish Job, Isaiah, and Ezekiel without thinking how tedious they are. The New Century (NCV) version is such that one reads the Bible as if reading and getting immersed in the story.I highly recommend this book to anyone who thinks that daily Bible reading is a chore and who cannot discipline him or herself to go through both old and new testaments within a year. Once you get through this book in a year, you will be motivated to read through scripture again with a different approach and then delve deeper into what the Lord wants you to read and study and apply.

Max Lucado is my absolute favorite Christian Author; I get a lot of his books when they are reduced and I really enjoy anything that he writes. This is a daily devotional that has select verses from both the old an new testaments; along with a short passage from him that expands on a bible verse. This is an insightful read because of the daily "Grace for the moment" section.In addition, if you read the Bible a lot, this sheds a new light on it because of the selected verses. I will be starting another version soon and I'm looking forward to it. If you have the opportunity don't pass up purchasing anything he writes. They are all wonderful.

I believe that reading this daily will take you through the entire Bible in a year. I'm not sure of that and I don't remember reading that anywhere but each day contains several pages from the Old Testament, something from Psalms and an excerpt from Proverbs and then something from the New Testament. The part I'm reading right now is from the book of Job in the Old Testament and from Romans in the New Testament. It uses the NCV translation which helps make more sense of the Old Testament especially because values for money, gold and silver are in today's language so that you have a better understanding of things. For example, the number of pounds of gold and silver used in building the Temple in Solomon's day. Those numbers are astounding! I am enjoying it and it does not feel like a burden to read. Max starts each day's reading with some words of his own which are from some of his books and that helps set the stage form what you are about to read from the Bible. I love the way Max Lucado writes and his unique perspective on things. If you are looking for another Max Lucado book, this is not it. Rather it is a compilation of readings from existing books that are pertinent to the Bible reading for that day. I think it makes reading the Bible more enjoyable.

Last year I bought a Kindle program to read the Bible in a year, and finally had to get a refund because it messed up my Kindle terribly. I was leary of buying another study of it, but wanted to do this so badly. After reading all the reviews and looking at a sample, I chose this version. It is so much better. It's very easy to use and I love the short preface to each day's reading. It is broken up into a segment from the Old Testament, a short reading from Psalms, one from Proverbs, and the the subsequent reading of the New Testament. It even was a couple of dollars less than the first version I had bought. This is well worth the money spent. I would highly recommend this version to anyone who wants to read the Bible in a year.
