Fits Phoneme portable printer
I recently received a Phoneme portable printer that included one thermal transfer ribbon. I am not sure how the printing process works, but I am happy with the results. The quality of the printed copy is not as sharp as one might get from a laser printer or even an inkjet, but the trade-off is portability and accessibility. I can carry this to a small meeting, take notes on my phone or laptop and print those notes right there for everyone. I had wondered how easy it would be to get extra ribbons and now I know: I have an extra pair from Amazon. I don't know how long these ribbons will last. On the ink jet cartridges I buy for my everyday printer there is an indication of how many pages a cartridge will print, depending on the setting. I'm still figuring out how the get the best use out of this portable printer and thermal ribbons.

Two pack Thermal Transfer Ribbon for P831 Portable Printer
The P831 Portable Phomemo Printer is a a different kind of printer that uses no ink, but rather it uses a carbon paper ribbon. The text or image is printed on the paper using a thermal process from the ribbon. It means the printer will be able to use regular copy paper or paper forms. This two-pack has the carbon ribbon cassette for the printer. The ribbon is a full-page size and it's like carbon paper that was used in typewriters. The ribbon is on rollers in the cassette and that prints out on the paper. Everything in contained in the cassette that goes in the printer. Each printer ribbon has a capacity of about 45 pages. One little hack I used back in the day was with my fax machine. That machine had a ribbon very much like this. I was able to roll back the ribbon to get more than one page from a printed section. There is an unused gap between pages, and this will let you use that part. However, if you print on a part that’s already printed, it will have parts of the text that won’t get printed. I have an example in the pictures attached to the review if you want to see the results.Obviously, you’d never do this with an important form, but for general printing that’s not critical, if you want to save a bit of the ribbon and extend its life a little, this gives you a way to do it.All in all, these ribbons are useful in a travel printer that allow business persons to print anywhere and any time from their phone or laptop.

Excellent
I was really surprised by the quality of prints from the Phomemo P831.My wife and I rarely need to use a printer. We're talking maybe once or twice a year to prepare documents for visa applications, or to sign a new lease on our apartment, so it makes little sense to give over a desktop to a full sized printer that will just sit there and gather cobwebs. When I ordered the Phomemo P831 I expected it to be little more than a novelty. My experience of thermal printing began and ended at the thermal paper used to print receipts, and they suck. I was surprised, then, to find that the P831 can produce a pretty damned sharp black and white document on a regular sheet of A4 paper. At $20 for a 2 pack I guess you're looking at a little more than 20 cents per page in printing costs. If you need to print every day that's probably not going to work out for you, but for someone like me who only needs it a couple of times each year this is ideal. The P831 and a couple of spare ribbons can take up, like, a quarter of a drawer in my office. They can sit there for months without getting in the way, but they're there when I need them.

So Affordable!
We have a mini Phomemo thermal printer, and it's my new favorite thing on the planet. This has been so much more useful than I could have imagined. I volunteer with Scouts, so this allows me to bring the printer to recruitment events and provide forms for would-be members. My kids use it pretty much nightly for homework. It's just been a huge helper. That said, one of my biggest fears when I got this was how expensive refill ribbons would be. I need not have worried. You get 2 here for roughly $25 (at the time of this writing), which is more reasonable than I could have imagined. I've only started using the first one, and I cannot tell a difference in the performance. I would so recommend this!

Stocking Up!
I recently switched from an M08F portable printer to a P831 portable printer, both made by Phomemo. The difference between them is that the M08F is a direct thermal printer which has no consumables other than special thermal paper while the P831 uses a thermal transfer ribbon but can print on standard copy/printer paper and produces a much nicer printed page. I don't really like the thermally coated paper as it feels thinner and more flimsy while with the P831 printer I can use good quality paper. Also the thermal coated paper for the M08F printer degrades much quicker than the thermally transferred print. The problem with the P831 is that a ribbon cartridge only lasts for about 45 pages. So I find myself going through cartridges quickly. So I need to keep a few of them in stock. So every time I see them, I buy a couple (there are 2 in a box). These are manufactured by the same company as the printer so I know that they're going to fit and I know Phomemo well enough to know that they'll be well made.
