I have tried a variety of the black garlic suppliers on Amazon. I stayed away from this one because it was more expensive, didn't like the "organic" claim, and it was from California. I did finally order it and all I can say is that the initial packaging was the same as the others, but the appearance was "cleaner" in the sense that there were no bits of skin that had fallen off the garlic that had to be fished through. Next, I found that the garlic peeled easier, and the skin came off cleanly. With the others I had tried it some, and in some cases all, were a little difficult to peel, with a small patch of the skin remaining stuck to the bulb. There also were "hard" spots on the other company bulbs. These were very consistent in texture, no hard spots. The taste is superb. My taste "memory" is not so good, and I liked the taste of the other garlics too, but I think these would be better in a side by side comparison. All in all, I was glad I bought them, this is the only brand I will buy from here on in, and for sure if you are going to buy some as a gift to introduce people to try black garlic, this is the brand to get.

Bravo to Soulfood - this product is hands down DA BOMB! (For those who don't know the slang, that means "superb".)I have used black garlic before, but it isn't commonly found even in local specialty stores. So I placed my order with Soulmate, and could not be more pleased with what I received.The taste is incredible. There's a smoky sweetness with a hint of a roasted garlic flavor; the texture, like others have described, is similar to a soft gummy. Every bite makes you want to take another bite.I really like the fact these are 'single bud' garlics, as opposed to the ones that have divided up into smaller cloves. For one thing, less peeling required. Also, the more uniform size works well when you're trying to produce similar pieces.Uses? The sky and your imagination are the limit. Eat as-is, chop and add to soups for a deep, rich flavor in the broth. Add to veggies that will accompany roast meats. Use in stuffing. Chop into stir-fry. Chop even smaller and add to french fries (regular or sweet-potato). Add to hash browns.I also use to make a substitute for those sodium-busting soy sauces: Chop the pieces and work into a paste (a pestle can be used). Add the paste to water, add musky mushrooms (shitake, portobello), onion powder, black pepper, a smidge of salt and a splash of cider vinegar. Simmer at a low rolling boil until everything has broken down into a dark broth. Mash up all the solids, then strain the sauce through a fine sieve. Enjoy your soy-less, low-salt soy sauce replacement.Interested to know about other ways you're enjoying your black garlic.

After reading some good reviews I bought this, but was disappointed. This black garlic is very sugary, not very aromatic, and has a soft, mushy/grainy quality to it. It reminds me of a desert candy in texture and sugar level. Other brands available on amazon are much more aromatic, darker, firmer, less sug, etc. and taste far better eaten straight or added to food. It may be the type of garlic they use -- the one upside to this is that it's very easy to peel compared to normal garlic as it is single bulb garlic.UPDATE: SOULMATE contacted me directly and did their utmost to rectify the situation, including refunding my purchase! So their service is certainly good :-) However, my issue is not with their service, but the product itself.

At present, this brand is my favorite! The garlic is simply perfectly moist, easy-as-pie to peel, and delicious to eat. I can simply eat them whole, after removing the outer dried skin. Very, very pleased with Soulmate's Black Garlic!

I'd been happy with my previous brand of aged black garlic produced in China. But with the recent jump in price for the Chinese product, I switched to this made-in-the-USA brand, Soulmate. And it is delicious! It's slightly softer than the Chinese brand, but of excellent quality...and perhaps with a little more flavor. If you've never had black garlic before, I should mention...this stuff is addictive! Not literally, of course. It's just so damned good! It bears no similarity to raw garlic, aside from the many important health benefits which are actually multiplied by the aging process. The flavor is sweet and exotic and the texture like a cross between soft licorice and a date. If you enjoy flavorful food, you can easily go through a container a month. It's not only great in stirfry and other dishes, you will find yourself eating it right out of the jar. In fact, that's the way most of mine disappears. I pop one into my mouth. And then another. And often a third. Studies have shown that one clove of raw garlic a day is good for the heart and may help to prevent dementia. Can't help but think that three cloves are even better. And did I mention there's no garlic breath with the aged variety?

Scary no expiration date printed. Label print quality is blurry. I'm not sure if this USDA organic product certified. It is soft and very sweet. This product to me is doesn't look like authentic.

Well packed and high quality black garlic. All cloves are fairly big and the same size. I ordered peeled black garlic from another brand and they are sweeter and a little bitter aftertaste. I would rather buy unpeeled so I know for sure that there is nothing else added to the garlic. So far, I like this brand the best.

The packaging is great for storage and easy to use. The bulbs are tasty and perfect size for one serving at a time. No after taste. Wonderful benifits. I would purchase again. Aged garlic takes time,so it's worth the wait between batches. Order 2 at a time.
