Christmas at Historic Houses

Got this book for a friend for Christmas and she loved it

I have owned and I love historic homes, and I've always personally done big decorating for Christmas, both in my retail business and home. I was really disappointed in this book. None of the photographs used were actually taken for this book. They are used by courtesy from the photo collections of the various historic homes and museums. Most of these photos look to be of the ilk from guidebooks or maybe even postcards sold at those locations. Consequently, the quality of the photos as reproduced in the book is sometimes grainy looking, which is made worse by the fact the paper is not glossy, but more importantly, the majority of the photos show decorating styles from the 1980's and 1990's. The text of the book is interesting, which is why I gave it two stars, but the glamour shots are a let down.

This is a very nice book and the pictures in it are just great. Just like Christmas is suppose to be.

The cover is stunning, but only a few photo's inside equal it…..most are small, not nearly as professional…some even out of focus and poorly done. We returned it.

Dieses Buch ist wirklich traurig. Es ist 2014 erschienen und ich erhoffte mir tolle Fotos aus großen Villen. Die gibt es auch zu sehen, allerdings sind die Bilder derartig veraltet, dass sie den Anschein erwecken, sie stammen aus den 60ern. Das Buch verliert sich dann auch noch in Kleinbildern, anstatt weihnachtliche Gesamtkonzepte/ Dekorationen zu zeigen. Wer Anregungen aus aktuellen x-mas Dekos sucht, kann dieses Buch getrost vergessen!
