Non-stick household scissors for narrow-handed slim-fingered people, but non-stick coating causing concern
Clauss Cutlery is a cutlery brand owned by the Acme United Corporation since 2004. It was founded as Elyria Shear Works in 1877 by the two Clauss brothers John and Henrie in Elyria, Ohio. Together with five employees, they began manufacturing scissors, shears, straight razors and serrated kitchen knives. At one time Clauss was the largest manufacturer of scissors and shears in the world. These 7” Titanium Bonded Non-Stick Scissors Model No. 18542 are made in China from cutlery-grade steel and can be found on the ClaussCo website and on Page 9 of the 2011 ClaussCo product catalogue PDF. Every Clauss product carries a Lifetime Warranty, although I don’t know whether this applies outside the USA.I’ve been using the scissors since 14th Oct 2017, and after some slight tension adjustments to the centre screw, found them to have a precise cutting action. They’re well manufactured, pretty well balanced with a slight tendency to tip forwards, not too heavy, and most importantly, non-stick when cutting adhesive tapes of all types, from regular household sellotape to 50mm waterproof reinforced fabric tape.I have long slim fingers and narrow hands and the design and width of the grippy cushioned ribbed handle holes are ideally suited to accomodate people of this hand type. That’s with my thumb in one hole with room for lining up what I’m cutting, and both my index and middle fingers very snug in the other. The scissors come in a blister pack, and although my pack was a bit the worse for wear, the scissors were undamaged. Stats: weight 61g, overall length 18cm, blade length 8.2cm, width 8cm, jaws width fully open 13cm. 11 attached macro pics.I’ve given them 3 stars for the time being, because even though I’m a very careful user I’m slightly concerned and disappointed that the non-stick coating is being abraded off the RH blade tip and along the inside of the cutting and outer edges, which hopefully you can see in the 3 close cropped blade pics.
