Design Flaw - limited use with larger fruits/veggies
I already have an OXO mandolin slicer set that I like and use quite a bit. However, the set is limited as to the thickness of the slices so I got this because of good reviews and because it was small (didn’t give me more than what I needed which was the adjustable thickness slicer only).Unfortunately, there seems to be two design flaws in the thing. First, is that the mandolin has a lip at the very end so that anything you slice that is a large vegetable or fruit hits against the lip. Think sweet potatoes or cucumbers that you’re slicing lengthwise. Basically you can at most get an slice that’s 4-5 inches in length and then it starts to butt up against the lip of the mandolin and that’s as far as you can slice. With softer large fruits/veggies this may not be a problem as they’ll just curl and perhaps you can keep slicing but I tried it with sweet potatoes and it was a struggle. Ended up with many broken pieces. The second flaw is that the adjustability mechanism for the thickness creates a sort of wedge shape that makes it so that the trailing edge of the fruit/veggie gets caught at that wedge. So even with an apple (!) which is nowhere near as hard as a potato, I would slice once and then grab the slice from underneath the mandolin me to free it from where it was stuck in between the blade and the adjustable plastic plate. Very frustrating. Obviously this is going back. Even with a standard Fuji Apple, I couldn’t do lengthwise cuts (on a quartered Apple) without the fruit getting stuck after each slice. I finally had to to do cross slices which was stupidly smaller than what I needed.Shouldn’t be this hard. Returned.

Yes! Its sharp!
Have high hopes for this. I like that it's all in one piece - the slice and the julienne cuts can be positioned into 3 blade widths. No juggling with changing different disks and trying to find room for extra disks and a caddy. This can easily be kept at hand to use as needed with no additional prep. The only problem is with the hand guard. It is awkward, does not hold on well to a vegetable and, because of the space between the top of the vegetable and the blade as the vegetable is being sliced, your fingers are at risk. That's why: BUY CUT-PROOF GLOVES along with this. Other than that, this looks like a good thing. I am hoping it lasts a long time

Perfect Mandoline. No fuss or Hassle.
This is my first mandolin so I'm not expert but this thing is fantastic. I hate a hassle and won't use something if I need to take it apart or wash it by hand, etc. This mandolin is made for those, like me, who love easy and simple gadgets without the fuss while still getting results. Again, it's my first so I can't compare the results but I love thinly slicing watermelon radish and other for garnish and bowls (see picture. I would never be able to cut a radish like that. I cut it thinly length wise after I used the mandoline but it's all done in a matter of a minute). You don't need to remove the blade, you can wash it in the dishwasher and determining thickness is as simple as moving a button to 1,2 or 3. I use it with the gripper and bought the no cry gloves separately (I'm dangerous in the kitchen!). Next to vitamix, this is my favorite kitchen gadget I purchased this year. It's insanely affordable too! I highly recommend.

This Gadget works!
I have had it for 8 months and use it to julienne potatoes (not carrots - they are too hard), sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, etc. BUT - VERY IMPORTANT - I recommend purchasing the glove blade protectors since the provided food gripper does not work very well and puts undesirable holes in the food. The gloves have protected my hands and allowed me to completely slice or julienne most or all of the food item. I have made the mistake of not using the protection, even with the gripper, and paid for it in blood almost every time.

Super duper sharp! Be careful!!
There were no directions provided. The gadget to hold the vegetables was difficult to use and did not hold my sweet potatoe well. After several tries, I was able to slice the potato. Thank God I sliced it on an angle, otherwise I would have lost the tip of my finger. I ended up making emergency trip to dr after receiving a severe laceration to my finger. I got stitches, antibiotics, and a tetanus shot.

Good price, and yes, it can slice beef! (you just gotta freeze it a bit)
Now unlike a lot of people who bought this product, I used this to make beef jerky that was paper thin instead of vegetables. I put the beef in the freezer for a bit until it was firm, and selected the thinnest setting. A night passed, and I had made my best batch of beef jerky yet! Thin, crispy, but still packed with flavor. (If it isn't apparent I really like beef jerky and this works pretty good for making it thin.)

Does POTATOES, Zucchini, Whole Onions, Cucumbers and More.
I love this product! It DOES do potatoes! I'm low carb high fat so I don't need it for potatoes, but my husband loves them. It works great for julienne on zucchini and yellow squash. And the julienne has a neat effect on a whole round onion as well. When you julienne a squash, understand the first cut will be just the skin, unless you cut that part off with a knife. The little thing is great for cucumbers too! EASY cleanup especially if you have a sprayer nozzle on your sink, the high pressure water makes cleanup in 10 seconds. The three thick and thin cutting levels are fun to play with and make dishes much more desirable. On tall items, like a long zucchini, I feel it is safer to start with your hand without the guard, and as you progress closer to the unit definitely use the HAND GUARD!! Just go at a nice pace and never get in a crazy rush, I hear these things are sharp! *The blade lock after cleaning is a superb idea.
